Every day that passes, the business world becomes more dependent on technology; it’s where the future of business lies. The challenge businesses across the world are confronting is the distinct shortage of talented individuals to develop the technology their future depends on.

Enter Zip Code Wilmington.

On June 1st, 2015 we officially launched the program at the Nemours Building in Wilmington. We gathered to celebrate the beginning of one of the most exciting and transformative technology initiatives the city of Wilmington, Delaware has ever seen.

The initiative is supported by: elected officials including Delaware Governor Jack Markell, Senator Chris Coons, and Senator Tom Carper; established corporations such as Barclays, Capital One and JP Morgan Chase; and dedicated Delaware entrepreneurs.

The idea for the school was born out of the fact that Wilmington, DE is a fast-growing technology hub with a high demand for talented coders. Additionally, there are few high quality coding schools on the East Coast, of which few provide the in-depth training for the types of coding jobs (Java and .NET). available in most major cities. Hence, there is a distinct shortage of talented coders qualified to fill these jobs.

In fact, last year alone more than 675 jobs relating directly to JAVA and .NET, opened in Wilmington, DE alone.

“There’s never been a better time to be someone with the right skills,” said Delaware Governor Jack Markell. “And there’s never been a worse time to be someone without the right skills.”

Learning how to code is like learning a new language, and is one of the most in-demand skills in the business world today. Start your coding career in JAVA and .NET by applying to Zip Code Wilmington’s inaugural semester starting September 1st in Wilmington, Delaware.
