Since opening in the Fall of 2015, we’ve graduated over 100 software developers, and we’re continuing to grow. About Zip Code Wilmington:
Zip Code Wilmington is the first non-profit coding academy in Delaware, founded to build a diverse and job-ready tech talent pipeline for the area with a mission of supporting the economic development of the region. We produce entry-level object-oriented software developers (focused mainly in Java) via an immersive 12-week curriculum with 3 cohorts per year which are designed in partnership with our 20+ corporate partners including M&T Bank, CSC, and many others. In 2019, we also launched an additional 12-week course focusing on Data Engineering, a field which is in great demand for our region. Since 2015, we have trained nearly 500 software developers and transformed the lives of our graduates.
About the Role of the Social Media & Events Coordinator:
The Social Media & Events Coordinator embodies the heart and soul of the company and connects Zip Code Wilmington with those in the Delaware community who seek to connect and interact with the company. In this role, the ideal candidate will understand how to oversee interactions with the public by implementing content strategies on social media platforms (including LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Slack) as well as other electronic engagement methods (such as newsletters). The ideal candidate will protect and build the Zip Code Wilmington brand in social media or other engagements. The ideal candidate will have the ability to analyze engagement data, trends in social media interactions, and plan digital campaigns to build a community online.
The ideal candidate will also incorporate and oversee community events, whether in person or online, to further expand and build the Zip Code Wilmington brand, recruitment pipeline, and corporate partner engagement. This includes basic project management skills such as the planning and implementation of a calendar of community events, sourcing and managing vendors, venue selection, and supplies.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred but not required)
• 1+ year of work experience in a professional setting (Required)
• 1-3+ years of related experience in social media or events management (Preferred and equivalent
experience is acceptable; demonstrable examples of past work product are encouraged)
• Adherence to deadlines and strong will to meet them
• Strong creative problem-solving skills
• Team player and collaborative ability
• Strong interest in helping others
• Reliability and strong ability to work with time constraints and meet deadlines
Technology & Work Requirements:
• Knowledge and understanding of Hootsuite/ Google Analytics / SEO
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Proficient with Google Suite including Gmail, Google Calendars / Docs / Sheets / Pages
• Flexible hours may be needed (some weekends, some evenings)
• Applicants must be physically able to efficiently perform the duties of the position with or without
reasonable accommodation. Duties do not require arduous exertion but may at times involve lifting, carrying, prolonged standing, walking, pushing, bending and reaching, and may involve the handling of heavy containers of mail and parcels weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Technically proficient with Slack and Zoom
• Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to new technologies
• Experience with work force development and assisting job seekers in obtaining employment

Zip Code Wilmington staff and students are currently operating and training in a hybrid working environment with limited exceptions. COVID-19 safety protocols have been established and are continually refined to maintain a safe work environment for staff, students, alumni, volunteers, and other residents of The Mill co-working spaces. Strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols is therefore required.
Moderate travel (25-50%) anticipated within New Castle, Kent, or Sussex Counties in Delaware.
